Ilaiyaraaja 75 - நேற்று இல்லை நாளை இல்லை எப்போவும் நீ ராஜா

At the end of Ilayaraja 1000, Raja himself promised to give us a musical treat with his own orchestra and it finally happened. Thanks to Vishal & co for organizing this grand event and successfully executing it with few minor glitches. And, finally after watching many concerts on TV and YouTube videos finally I've attended this, Ilaiyaraaja 75, live and that's off from my bucket list.

Day 1: Actually we were very reluctant to book for the day one since it was just some dance performances by heroines for Raja sir's songs. Since we were able to book only season pass for both the days we went on day one as well. But, oh boy, if at all we skipped, we would have missed one of the most important events of this century. ARR and Raja together on stage. ARR playing "Punnagai Mannan" theme on his phone first then on a keyboard, followed by Raja singing "Mandram Vantha Thendral" and ARR playing keyboard for that. That's it that was worth every penny we have paid for that day. And, whatever else happened on that day was a bonus.

The day started with a formal welcome speech from Vishal, followed by the Governor's where he genuinely surprised when he spoke about some of the records Raja has made. Followed by the first event of performance by "Nattupura Kalaingargal" with Thavil, Thapattam. Nathaswaram, which was a rousing start for the day.

Apart from that, we enjoyed Vijay Yesudas's performance where he sang a few of his father's songs with music director Nivas Prasanna on the keyboard. Also, Ramya Nambeesan and Andrea's singing performances as well. And, Roobini danced for her most famous "Sivarathiri" song, of course, she looked old though. Vedhika, Sayesha, Namitha, Poorna, Manjima, Iniya were the others who performed for Raja sir's songs.

Actor Karthik along with actress Radha was blabbering on and on and on which irritated everybody and fittingly Raja asked him "you are a hero da, why are you trying to speak like a comedian" and switched him off. And, Bhakkiyaraj was trying to talk about to experience with Raja sir and he was cut short by Kasthuri and he was never given time to finish his story.

And, BlackSheep team RJ Vignesh and others presented a skit on what if Sundar C, Shankar, Hari and TR worked with Raja. It was really hilarious. And, the final performances by a band, I think ORFEO, where they presented a medley of an instrumental version of Raja sir's songs starting with Rakamma and few more songs. We were expecting Kamal and Rajni, but they didn't make it.

So, as far as day one is concerned everyone left with the memory of ARR and Raja on stage together.

Day 2: The much awaited day was here. Ilaiyaraaja's live in concert, the only reason for booking the season pass. We were seated almost two hours before the start of the actual event. And, there was some ruckus from people at the Executive lounge for not providing a proper screen for viewing since they were too far at the back. And, everyone ran to the front along with the chairs and finally settled before the event started. So, as promised Raja was ready to give us treat, he even bought the Budapest orchestra from Hungary. They were outstanding throughout the show.

Raja, as usual, started with the "Janani Janani" followed by "Om Shivoham" by Haricharan. Then Mano for "Ilamai Idho Idho" and we were already missing SPB. Wish Vishal and co have done something and made peace between SPB and Raja. Next on stage was Chitra for "Ninnu Kori", followed by "Poove Sempoove" by Madhu Balakrishnan. And, Usha Utup sang "Vegam Vegam", followed by "Anandha Ragam" by Vibhavari, she was so good. Raja told us she's from Pune and doesn't know a single word in Tamil.

Then Raja sang "Idhayam Oru Kovil", and Maniratnam came on stage after that, where Raja kidded "Enna Mani vayasayurucha?".  And, Mani didn't take much time, Raja told a trivia about the song how he ended up writing lyrics for this song when he felt the lyrics given by the lyricist didn't do justice for the situation Mani Ratnam told.

Singer Prasanna and Bhavatharani sang "Oliyile Therivathu", followed by "Poove Ilaya Poove" by Mukesh. I really liked Mukesh much, he was so perfect and wish he had sung a few more songs.
Raja sang

Meanwhile Raja called Rajni on to the stage and he talked about Raja and how he started calling him Swami. Also, Raja told Suhashini there's only one Superstar when she called Raja also as Superstar. Also, Rajni complained he gave better songs to Kamal's films. Raja says Kamal complains the vice versa and Kamal too said the same when he was on stage. And, Raja further added, I don't mind the heroes at all, I have great songs for Ramarajan, Mohan, etc. It was friendly banter went on when Rajni asked about whether he's getting enough money from the copyrights.

Mano, sang "Madai Thiranthu" and Kamal was seen sitting next to Rajni during this song. And, someone gave him a mike when the song was about to end. We were expecting him to speak from his place itself, but he started "Raghupathi Raghav Raja Ram" from Hey Ram and he proceeded towards the stage, it was a fantastic entry and continued the song along with Shruthi Hassan who joined his father. And, Raja made them sing the last part since they made some mistake. They continued "Ninaivo oru Paravai", but both of them really struggled. And, then Chitra joined Kamal for "Onna Vida". It was a pleasant surprise for me, I didn't expect Kamal to sing and that too three songs. Then, he later sang "Kanmani Anbodu", that was legendary. Also, the starting portions of "Vanithamani" then Chitra and Mano continued.

Kamal also said it was Raja, who asked him to join politics, but Raja said I said at a different time :D. And, he expressed his love hugging and kissing him, Raja joked saying, "heroine ku kodukka vendiathu ellam enakku kodukkurar".

Madhu Balakrishnan came back for "Raja Raja Cholan", he was later joined by a group of girls, they continued the song and also "En iniya Pon Nilave" by Raja. Then, they gave an acapella version of "Naan Poranthu Vanthathu" song from Maya Bazaar. Later, Raja told these girls performed well when he visited some colleges like MOP Vaishnav, Ethiraj, Queen Marry's and they were interested in performing with Raja so asked them to join them. Also, he took a dig at Kamal saying they sang perfectly.

And, Raja sang the much awaited "Thendral Vanthu" with Chitra, followed by "Ennulle Ennulle" by Vibhavari. Then Haricharn and Priya Himesh rocked "Rakamma", followed by "Kanmaniye Kadhal Enbathu" by Mano and Vibhavari.

Meanwhile some musicians DSP, Vijay Antony, Mani Sharma, Dheena and actors Karthi, Vijay Sethupathi, Bharath, Vikram, Vivek, Kushboo and directors RK Selvamani, RV Udayakumar, Shankar also Siddique and Satyan Anthikad from Malayalam industry and actors Mohan Babu and Venkatesh from Telugu industry came on stage and a few people talked about Raja. Especially Mohan Babu went on and on in Telugu. Also, Pon Radhakrishnan went on stage and talked about Raja and few more people felicitated  Raja.

Mano and Srinisha sang "Oh Butterfly", which was after Vikram sang a few lines from the song. Karthik Raja sang "Kadhal Oviyam" with Vibhavari and then they called his brother Yuvan on stage and he sang "Hey Unnaithane" with Anitha. And, Mano and Chitra sang another much-awaited song "Sundari Kannal", but still SPB was missed.

Then Usha Utup came back to sing "Rum pum bum" with Mano and Kushboo joined them to dance followed by "Thanni Thotti" with Haricharn and she really got the crowd dancing and clapping along. Madhu sang "Kanne Kalaimane" and Usha continued the song in Hindi and crowd waved their mobile torches along, it was a wonderful sight. And, Mano and Chitra sang "En jodi manja kuruvi", and the crowd was erupting. Raja sang "Kattu Vazhi", "Then Pandi Cheemayile". And, then he introduced his music troupe. TIL that the singer Arunmozhi is none other than the flute player Napoleon. I know he was Napoleon @ Arunmozhi, but didn't know he is the singer Arunmozhi. Also, Raja thanked Vishal and also all others who were against this program.

Then all the male singers performed a medley of "Singari Sarakku", "Adiye Manam", "Aatha Aathorama", followed by the female singers ended with "Pothuvaga En Manasu Thangam".

So, it was almost 35 songs and the time was almost 12:30 and no one wants to leave and we wanted more. The seating arrangement and screens could have arranged properly, actors and directors could have spoken less and SPB should have attended, Valaiyosai and Ilaya Nila were missed. These were the only minor complaints otherwise it was surely an unforgettable day of my life. Thanks to Raja sir, Budapest orchestra and of course Napolean's flute.

Premam - A Special Show

Premam - One of my most favorite movies of all time I swear. You can even check my four most favorite movies in my http://letterboxd.com/karthic_s. My friends at Kone and my old roommates know how much I was obsessed with this movie. I kinda singlehandedly made most of my colleagues to watch it at least once there.

I ended up watching it six times in the theatre, but those were the times I didn't have any Premam in my life. And, I was like if only I can watch this with someone special in my life. But, it was a lost opportunity. Even though it ran over 200 days here I kept watching it with my "pasanga" gang only.

Then came this fantastic opportunity to relive it again on big screen in this month of February, the month of love. I never thought this day would come in my life for a special show of a special movie with my special person. So, I didn't want to miss it and booked the tickets right away once it got opened. And, I was so excited as if I'm going to watch FDFS of some the most expected movie and a little nervous too since I want her to like this as well. I've created so much hype. Now, all that left was to make it on time and hope it will live up to the expectations I've created.

And, after some little hurdle, we did make it on time. There was actually only a fewer number of couples compared to the "pasanga" gangs, but the screen was 90% occupied. The crowd was mostly silent until the beat of "Kalippu" started. Easily the best transformation from a school kid to a college student in cinema. And, from then on there were whistles and hoots which gave goosebumps. And, no need to mention the reception Malar got even now, which was more than the hero Nivin himself.

It was all nostalgic, to see Shambu, Koya, Mava, Shivam master, etc and each and every character right from the start till the end. All I want is to watch the movie with the director once again and ask every silly question that comes to mind to him. And, finally ask him about his next, each and every one involved in that movie have done many movies already.

So, I was enjoying it as usual, as if I am watching it for the first time. But, the most important part was to know how she feels watching all this. Throughout the movie, I kept throwing all the trivia I know about the movie and about every character in the movie. And, from time to time I kept looking at her face to know the reaction and the mood of her. And, I think she did the same once Malar appeared on the screen, I hope I kept a straight face.

At the end of the movie, just like any movie in the MCU, asked her to wait till the mid-credit scene. And, when I came out asked her "Epdi?" "Is it worth all the hype I created?" Waiting to know the answer, as if I made the movie. I am so relieved that she liked the movie and understood all the hype I've created. Thank you Luxe Cinemas for making this happen.

A special movie's special show made even more special since I watched it with the most special person in my life. Finally, an achievement unlocked, which I never expected to happen.

Now, if only I get to watch my other favorite movie Minnale again with her on a big screen again.

Vagamon - WoW! What a Beauty!!

My first trip with Visteon guys, mostly my last trip as a bachelor, was to Vagamon in God's own country. We were planning to go on a trip right from my last stint, two years ago, it didn't materialize at all. And, even this time we were just planning to go to Pondy, with a lot of changes in the dates we finally fixed Vagamon. I have never heard about it and I was initially reluctant to travel 12 hours in train followed by 3 hours bus journey and all, but oh boy, it was worth it. And, finally an actual enjoyable "camp-fire" happened.

On top of the world, touching the clouds..
The first day was mostly spent travelling and getting to our Himaharsham home-stay in Vagamon. Chennai to Kottayam in Train, and with our limited Malayalam language we tried to catch the bus to Vagamon, but we missed it. Then, we have to catch two busses to reach our Vagamon, but that's not it. We have a booked home-stay so far away from the town, so we needed another ride in a Jeep to reach there. We were already travelling off-road to reach there. Once we were there, it was as if we were all alone in a mountain with rooms build just for us. It was so far away we couldn't even hear any sounds other than birds and insects chirping. It was so far away that our first day's activity was to go and have a tea. We had to walk nearly 2 kms to see some people and stores. When we had tea and came back, it was already dinnertime. The weather was very interesting as well, it rains heavily for a minute and stop for 10 minutes. It was nice catching up with it.

The second day was just great. Our first stop was at a sightseeing spot named "Palozhugum Parai", where the waterfalls looked like milk flowing, most of the waterfalls looks like that though. It was just for viewing, then the next stop was Meadows, it was wonderful. Lush green mountains after mountains where we can just climb and enjoy the greenery.  And, we located another mountain far away covered with clouds, and we decided to go there. And, on the way we stopped at Pine forests, but we have seen enough in other trips so we left that place early.

The next stop Thangalpara, where we actually climbed the mountains. Most of the time we always wondered, what will be like to go to the top of the mountain? Here, we actually did that and that spot is "Thangalpara", my favourite spot among those we have visited so far that day. We were at the top of the world, with clouds passing through us. We decided to stay a little longer cause you never know whether we will get another chance like this. But, it started raining heavily, drenching every one of us and making the return even more adventurous. It was little risky walking down the slippery mountain, but it was a lifetime experience. After getting drenched, it was freezing outside so we came back to room.

And, then it happened, "campfire", even though rain threatened to end it every now and then, we finally had a blast there. With songs and dance, oh boy it was fantastic campfire, the one I always wanted in my every trip to a hill station. Followed by playing cards, while teaching "Ass Game" to few people, all went to sleep which was one of the best days of my life.

Happy Birthday Aadhi.. just posing, we didn't hit him :D

The final day, we had time to visit only two places, once again rain threatened to cut short that as well. But, it stopped in time for us to enjoy a bath in a river inside the forest. That was another isolated location where we enjoyed much for a long time where the water was flowing in a full force with a little waterfalls. Then, went on to our next location inside the forest, a sightseeing spot, where we had to climb a small mountain again. Oh boy that was the best spot of this trip. Once we were at the top, it was green 360 degrees, you can just sit there all alone and get lost in nature. That was a fantastic last stop in Vagamon.

Saved the best spot for the last..
Since we luckily got a straight bus Kottayam we were about to reach a lot early early for our train at 10 pm, so we decided to visit a temple on the way, where we had no clue about the procedures followed. And, just when we thought everything was looking good, a small twist happened. We all thought our return train was at 10 pm, but it was actually at 8:20 pm. We accidentally saw it right in time and we were able to make it and catch the train and thankfully it was delayed as well. It was little thrilling for a while though, but all is well that's end well.

This is a trip which kept getting better and better, where each and every location was a treat and most importantly unlike any other hill stations, we were able to enjoy it in peace without any disturbances. We got enough time all alone in each spots even on weekends. And, we were able to travel only in Jeep to any spot and most of the time we were travelling off-road and some roads were scary as well.

And, that's how we were :)
We may have missed a few spots, but this was by far the most satisfying trip I've ever had. We all went in without much expectation and Vagamon, The Scotland of Asia, satisfied us and surprised us. So Vagamon becomes my favourite hill-station. Thanks for choosing this place and thank you guys for all the wonderful memories and especially that "camp-fire".

Chennai to Sivakasi via Kodaikanal

This wasn't my last trip with KONE guys as I feared. We have completed another successful trip courtesy Muthukumar's wedding this time. I have got something to write in my blog and I am writing this especially for few people to know what did they miss by skipping this trip :D

Happy Married Life Muthu
In the past two trips we selected a hill station to visit, which is a three or four hours from the actual wedding location and that too with our own hired vehicle. Since I was not in the planning committee this time I didn't know the details and my geographical skills were poor as well, I thought we have done the same this time and selected Kodaikanal, oh boy I was very wrong.

This time we started with nine people, as usual there were cancellations and last minute additions. In both of my previous trips we attended the wedding first, then went on to carry our trip on our selected hill station. This time we went straight to our selected location Kodaikanal via train till Kodai road and thank god the train reached two hours late so we reached there by 5o clock instead of midnight three, and got into a mini bus which was going to the hilltop with Raja songs for company.

There was a power cut after reaching the hotel, so we had to take the ice bucket challenge since no hot water, ooh it was freezingly good. The first day we hired a Tavera, thanks to some last minute cancellations a Tavera was enough, and started to explore Kodaikanal. We had a guide within our group, Naga, who seems to have visited Kodai every weekend and as per his experience we decided to go Mannavanur. It was a beautiful location with a small lake. And, we had a little fight with the people working there. We found one unattended mobile and we told the people we will handover at the front desk instead to them and the funny thing is, these guys were complaining to a police officer as if we said something wrong. Anyway, we handed over the phone and that police insisted us to take some photos for proof. We are expecting some medals from our president soon.

The next stop was a "Temple", yes you read that right, first time with guys in a hill station. And, that's the place where the movie Seevalaperi Pandi movie was shot, our driver kept repeating it. Then, followed by a meals at a costly restaurant. All other spots were either closed or filled with just mist and reached room by early, but it was "colourful" nevertheless so we stopped everywhere. After reaching our room, we decided to go out for a tea, that was the longest walk I ever took for a tea we went around the whole Kodaikanal lake, which was more than five kms, but the weather and the tea we had later was worth the walk.

Temple 2 Mohan refusing to take down that jacket even at that scorching heat.

The next day we walked again to visit another "Temple", yes two in two, by walk again. This was a difficult walk because of the weather and And, that's the only place we visited that day.  We expected rain in Kodai, but we escaped and it was raining only when after we boarded the bus. We started our marathon bus journey from Kodai @ two pm to Madurai to Sivakasi to Alangulam around 11 pm. There were some fights in our bus from Kodai to Madurai as well, but we weren't involved. The weather was completely opposite in Alangulam and the India vs Pakistan match wasn't interesting either.

The wedding was at a temple, so we went to a "Temple" again for third straight day with a bunch of guys. It is definitely a new record. After attending the main event the next day, just when we thought our trip is over, we planned to go to Courtralam to fulfil the birthday boy Ajesh's wish. There was enough water, but a lot of people. We have to squeeze ourselves, but enjoyed there totally once we were in the water. It was totally refreshing after a lot of travelling and a hot day. That really made our trip great followed by the lunch/dinner at the "International Famous" Border Parotta Shop. We changed our plan to get back to Rajapalayam and boarded the train at Senkottai itself. It was one of the beautiful railway station I've ever been and weather was too good with a slight drizzle.

Scenic Station @ Senkottai

We travelled in unreserved compartment till our actual boarding station, it was unforgettable. If you are already in the train you cannot miss the train :) I can't even imagine how people travel their whole journey like that. And, it was already hot in the train reminding us the weather in Chennai. Another long journey started and reached Chennai on time though. And, the only trip where we took very less photos I guess. Also, we missed both of our group's 'selfie sticks' (Ram & Bharath) in this trip.

If you are already in the train you cannot miss the train :)
Anyway, it was an excellent trip with a lot of new places and new experiences. First-time we spent most of the time travelling in public transport in a trip, first-time visiting temples in hill stations, first-time in Sivakasi, Border Parotta. Overall an excellent trip and wishing Muthu a very happy life ahead and it's a pity that few people missed it.

Chennai to Kodai Road to Kodaikanal to Madurai to Sivakasi to Alangulam to Rajapalayam to Kuttralam to Senkottai to Chennai nearly 1500 kms.

So this could be my last long weekend trip as a bachelor? I hope I am proven wrong once again.

Finally we did it - Known Number: A shortfilm in our name

Finally we have made it, Known Number, a short-film and it's released. Though it was just a 10 mins movie, it took a lot of effort and time. And, making a movie, even a short one, isn't easy.

After watching a countless of movies and seeing your friends make shorts, you always want to do that. My first thought was I wanted to be a part of my friend's short film crew, just want to present in the spot when he makes the film, That's what I asked, but he offered to cast me in his next short. I was excited after hearing the story, it was funny. And, we kept talking about it for years and it never took off. I just liked the thought of being a part of a movie, though it may be a short, even if it's not acting, but it didn't happen.

Then, last year same time around my company announced its annual event where short films will be a part of it. So with my colleague who's my roommate as well started to do a movie. This time we did create a poster and it was put up on the walls inside our company. Then, we even shot for few days thanks to my friend, who happens to be a photographer. We rented lens, camera, etc., and shot for few days. First, the function was canceled, but we wanted to finish the film even if it won't be telecast there. And, then came the rains and it was unofficially dropped. We had to shoot in too many places, involving many artists, by many I mean four people and nothing went as per plan and so we dropped it.

This year when the event was announced we decided to do a short again. This time we want to do a different movie. So, my colleague/rommie, wrote a script in which there won't be a need of any female artist or any other location except in and around our room. And, thank god, our previous movie cinematographer, who was very busy agreed to be a part of this. We don't think this movie would have happened if didn't accept, at least not by this time or by this quality we did the camera on our own.

It took us a month to complete the shooting though we shot only for four days in the night time. We started in our rooftop with sun-gun lights and it was like a real shooting spot. And, we don't have any pics, thanks to Suresh. We slowly moved out, shot in front of our room, then in next street, then in the GST road, finally in front of a busy hotel and TASMAC to wrap it up. It wasn't much difficult to shoot in those areas as well. We made a lot of changes on the go and we okayed many scenes without going for a retake. And, never noted down the dialogues or the okayed shot number which haunted us during editing and dubbing.

And, we learned some tools, thanks to Suresh again and we did the editing, it was a tiring job. Every night we all sit with laptops like how we used to get together for night study.

The next part was dubbing, which was most difficult part in this movie. I didn't expect us to go this stage, to go to a dubbing theater and all. I was giggling right from the moment I entered the theater. The dubbing was even more fun. I try to say a dialogue and it sounds terribly funny to those sitting in the other room. I know they are laughing, but I try to ignore it. In the end I sounded terribly funny. It was embarrassing, funny and an unforgettable experience.

After that using some software, we completed the sound mixing and adding background scores thanks to all those music directors around the world. It was once again a tedious job. And, it's ready the only time we spent money making this movie is for dubbing.

I know we haven't achieved something great. I know we were just a drop in an ocean of short films that are already in YouTube. But, we are happy and satisfied that we are also a part of it.

We were very ambitious to try a sci-fi, night shoot, double action and to fit everything in 10 minutes and also to learn the tools to edit, mix the sound in our first movie itself. But we are proud of our output even though it isn't perfect. If at all we make a next one, we will try to better this.

Thanks to my team Ram, Suresh, Bharath, our cinematographer Rakesh and everyone who supported us from last year.

மகிழ்ச்சி!!!

Goodbye KONE - Thank U Guys

So my almost two years journey in KONE finally ended. I must confess I joined here by an accident. I never thought I would be working here till a day before my joining and started working here very reluctantly, but I really enjoyed my stay here.

Thank you guys (PC: Dir Ram)

One thing I really liked about working for KONE is our building, then Indialand Tech Park now One India Bulls. Whenever someone asks where am I working? I usually tell my company's name and area. And, if they don't get it, then I will be like "you have seen the movie Kaththi right and that same glass building".

The initial days were horrible, to get up by 6 am and catch the bus by 7. That was too early from my previous jobs and it was like living an extra half a day daily.

This is a dream company for any software engineer, at least my role, few people were always slogging. Here, I had a lot of time to learn, but being a lazy fellow I didn't do much of learning. I didn't have much work pressure, neither worked in weekends nor stayed late in weekdays. No defects fixing, no calls from manager during holidays, no defects from customer, didn't have to go to customer site to fix something. Never worked on the edge of a deadline. But, later I found out I enjoyed working like that rather than this lethargic job.

Another interesting thing here are the things we do outside work. Started playing cricket, carrom board, volley ball, badminton, etc., after very long time cos of all the tournaments arranged here. Even started playing TT for few days. It was always fun to do something as a team, even though our first cricket tournament went a little bad and the second went worse. But, very happy that I was part of a cricket team after all these years.

I would have never played in a carrom board tournament or participate in a quiz competition or act in a short film (more about this soon). All thanks to KONE, it was not just come-in-open-system-code-code-leave kind of a job. There will be always something going on outside our work. Planning a trip for someone's wedding or deciding the dinner menu for our team outings or organising some lunch or dinner plan or selecting a team for any tournaments, etc.

Team outings were new to me even after working in IT for more than six years, my first team outing was here in KONE where our whole team went to resort and had a gala time. Those were unforgettable experience.

And, I had a huge company for my daily coffee breaks. It was one thing I really look forward daily after reaching office, it will be mostly fun to discuss on various topics, will be missing it.

I came in here reluctantly, but the people here made me feel good to be working here. I really got a lot of friends. This two years and the friends I got here will be part of my life and I am not going to forget soon. Goodbye and thank you guys, will miss all the fun. I am really sure its never gonna be like this again wherever I may work in the future.

I know we will be in touch at least with my coffee gang. We will meet soon for a movie.

And, I am gonna miss my laptop as well ;) Now I need to get a new one to watch the movies in weekends.

Finally, some things never change or too hard to change, like, I came in here single and leaving here single as well ;).

Another wedding, another trip and a memorable experience

I ended my last post about our trip with a question, "So. who's gonna be the next and where will be our next trip?",  and the answer is here. It's Dharun's wedding and our next trip was to Munnar via Erode again.

Happy Married Life Dharun bro.

What's special about this trip? Campfire. Right from my college days during my every trip always wanted to enjoy a campfire. Just like I have seen in TV and also in some places, sitting around the fire, chatting, singing, dancing, enjoying, etc. And, it never happened in any of my previous trips and it's finally fulfilled in this trip. But, I have to admit it wasn't as great as I imagined, still something is better than nothing.

So, this time everyone boarded the train on time and 'action eh illa' this time since few people were missing this trip. We reached Erode as early as 3:30 am followed by a short bus travel to Komarapalayam to reach our hotel rooms. As usual, most of us dressed in traditional dhotis, which we all try once in a while like these functions, reached the temple just on time to catch the wedding ceremony. After finishing the 'pongal', we started our photo sessions, which went on and on, even the newly wed couples and their family left the temple before us. And, the wedding photographer took some good pictures, hoping that we will get it ;).

Followed by a lazy afternoon, few of us went to Achcham Enbathu Madamaiyada, in a local theatre. It was a half-open hall theatre without AC, but the screen and sound system was much better than what we have expected. As far as the movie, it was just watchable with ARR dominating the first half which tells the romance and turns into an action thriller in the second half. And, the climax was underwhelming. But, anyway it was nice to catch it on the release day in that area, Komarapalayam.

And, then we started to one of my memorable trips. Just like our last trip to Ooty, we started early morning 3:45 am to Munnar, we mostly slept throughout the journey and a wild elephant on the road woke up everyone and welcomed us to Munnar. Two innovos started reversing and we too started going back, but there were two more elephants at the back as well. Fortunately, those two left and it was quite thrilling for few minutes to see that big fat elephant with tusks walking slowly towards us. Anyway, it left without causing any damage.

This time we didn't have a hard time finding hotel to eat. Our plan was to reach our destination, our camp site after the breakfast around 10 am, but the travel took very long and we reached there for lunch. After a not-so-satisfying lunch we walked towards our base, which was nearly two hours long draining and tiring walk in a hot weather. After a refreshing tea, we started our actual trekking on the mountain. That place was surreal, the scenery around us was truly blissful. The mist passing through and touching our face. Even though we were little scared as we climbed up, but it was an extraordinary experience. And, as usual we didn't have much time and energy to explore fully.

Faking a smile for the picture, it was a tiring walk.

And, that night after dinner the campfire happened finally. That location was little awkward we didn't have much space around it. Following that everyone slept in the tents that was set around. This was the first time I ever used a sleeping bag and we all slept inside the tent, first time for the most of us, without fearing about any wild animals poking around our tent. We didn't have a problem with our mobile signal even at that top, which was disappointing though. I thought we would be cut off from this world for two days.

The next morning after having "puttu" for breakfast and clicking few more photos, walked towards the place where we left our van. The return wasn't as tiring and the weather also worked in favour of us. We were all set to Erode, and once again we were not sure whether we would catch the train. On the way we stopped at Lakkam Waterfalls. I went in without the intention of bathing, but seeing the falls couldn't resist myself from getting in. And, oh boy, I have never bath in a freezing cold water like that before. It was definitely a highlight of our trip, but it's a shame that we didn't have enough time to spend in that falls fearing we would miss our train. We managed this trip without much cash reserve and we searched for ATMs everywhere, thanks to Modi ji.

We reached Erode station well before our train's departure time, once again Dharun anna sent us some extra ordinary dishes for dinner, we couldn't thank him enough, it was overwhelming. Thanks for your hospitality Dharun bro and we all wish you a fantastic married life.

Overall, I finish my experience of the trip to Munnar, trekking, camp fire, staying in tents, etc., with this lyrics from Rasali song in AYM written by Thamarai. I feel pity for those who couldn't stay with us for the whole trip, yeah Muthu I am talking to you ;).

முன்னும் இது போலே புது அனுபவம் கண்டேன்
என சொல்லும் படி நினைவில்லை..
இன்னும் எதிர்காலத்திலும் வழி இல்லை..
மறவேனே!

So, this could be my last trip with Kone guys, I will really miss these trips. Will there be another trip, let's see what future holds.

Tamil Nadu Elections - VOTE WITHOUT FAIL

Another election in the mid of another IPL season. This time TN state election. This must be the first time I am seeing too many prominent teams playing here rather than two the big DKs.

So, ADMK is once again contesting in maximum number of seats as good as going solo. After a uninspiring five years and failed campaign, JJ took last best shot in her manifesto, freebies. Right from electricity, smart phone, scooter, etc. going to be free. Once again I hope our people don't get fooled by this. And, now JJ decides to prohibit liquor in our state "padi padiyaga", after keeping mum for the last few years when there were too many agitation against it. This is taking people for granted. The last five years were really worse phase and when she was in jail everything collapsed here and ADMK's failed to impress me with their sticker atrocities and incapable ministers who won't or can't make a decision on their own.

DMK, they have done few good when they were in the power last time, but once again they get them into numerous scandals. Also, they will not be able to control their own party members once they come to power. And, the biggest facepalm this time is joining hands with congress again after trying hard to bring in Vijaykanth. And, still not able to announce Stalin as their CM candidate. Their manifesto looks good, looks like they have done their homework. But, they don't give a feeling like they are going to win big this time.

The third front was usually nothing in the past, but this time time we have quite a few parties here. So it's more than three this time. First, the MNK, MDMK + two  communists and VC joined and started this election's work together, but once they brought in Vijaykanth they have handed him nearly half the seats and announced him as CM candidate. He's even struggling to speak a few lines properly. And, Vaiko has decided not even contest after forming this front. They don't even bring any hope as an alternative to the big DKs.

Next, we have Anbumani Ramadoss, who is more confident of becoming the next CM than Virat Kohli during a chase. And, PMK are the first party to start the groundwork for this election and they have really turned few heads around this time and decided to go solo after being in either one of the DK team till now. Looks like Anbumani has a few good schemes, but not sure whether he will get a chance. And, the biggest black mark is, they are always referred as a "Jaathi Katchi".  Even now Ramadoss fails to comment on that honor killing happened few months back during a press meet. It will be hard to remove that tag from their party. Let's see whether they have any part to play in this election if nobody wins big and PMK wins a few seats which could decide the ruling party. Will there be a "Maattram, Munnettram", lets see.

Seeman's Naam Thamizhar is a new and an interesting party to watch out for this election. Some of the schemes they have promised are really good and some of them terrifying as well. And, it will take them at least 50 year to implement everything he has promised. And, they have researched thoroughly on every department before preparing the manifesto. It will be good if they manage to win a few seats or at least Seeman to win and show what they are capable of and maybe they can play a bigger role next time. I hope Seeman doesn't go Vijaykanth way in the coming years.

And, few others like BJP and others are contesting just for the sake of it like our Minnows in every world cup. It's highly unlikely that they will upset any big team's candidate.

Going by the history this time DMK should win, but lets see if the history repeats or there is some new surprises in the store.

So, election commission is conducting a vigorous campaign for TN100Percent. Let's see how that goes. I hope we set some example for other states to follow. Everyone should analyze their candidates in their constitution and choose the best person irrespective of their party. And, I feel if you don't even vote you lose your rights to complain against the government. Don't give excuses, vote without fail.

Ilayaraja 1000 - A night to remember

One Man 1000 Films. First of all I don't know whether to praise Vijay TV for organizing such an event for Raja or to curse them for messing up for most of the parts.

I was very excited about this event since it was announced. I reached as early as possible by 5:30pm and the audiences were already started flowing in. Usha Utup was on stage rehearsing her songs, little we know she will get to sing those songs well past midnight. Vijay TV filled the gap by playing the promos of their every soaps and and irritating Tanjara ad. It was horrible to watch those promos again and again. And, the stage looked good, but it was like two km away from our 500 rs stand. The event scheduled to start by 6 pm started by 7 pm as expected with a delay. The event started with a chorus section singing "Guru Brahmma" and "Janani Janani" followed by the orchestra performing various evergreen BGMs of Raja and then the chorus section again joined to perform A Capella medley of few songs starting from Thendral Vanthu. After this, the king arrived on stage with "Hey Hey Ram" and "Tharai Thappatai BGM" with a thunderous response from those 15000 people gathered.

And, then the event starts to fall apart once the ever-irritating DD entered the stage. I expected GVM or even Gopi to host the show, really didn't expect DD. The speakers stopped working, we were shouting like anything for like 15 minutes. People started jumping the barricades and throwing the water bottles. Meanwhile Vikku Vinayagam's Gadam performance and Ilayaraja's Carnatic guru TVG was performing while all this was going on. And, the LED displays were getting on and off. It took some time for things to get settled.

Then comes Guitar Prassana with two foreigners in drums and bass guitar. They performed few songs which were mind-blowing, "Hey Unnaithane", then a medley of "Anthi Mazhai" and "Thoongatha Vizhigal" and finished with "Chinna Kannan Azhaikiran". The way his fingers moved over his guitar was really amazing to see, genius at work. He was one of the heroes of this show. And, the American drummer held his spirits high throughout the segment.

Then DD called Parthipan on stage, who was at his usual best, started praising Ilayaraja with his own wits and he called few directors on stage to talk about their experience with Raja. It was going on and on, especially Bhakyaraj, who took more time. Then, DD called few yesteryear heroines and they were blabbering for some time, looked like no one was prepared. And, Kamal joined them towards the end who kept his speech very short and reminded DD that this is a stage to sing not to speak, but she never learn. And, this followed by a set of female singers on stage who all said unanimously that they were here at this stage only because of Raja. By that time I was already confused whether there will be any performance.

Thankfully Chitra stayed and sang two songs one of Janaki's "Kannan Vanthu" and another one Swarnalatha's evergreen "Ennulle", followed by Mano's "Maanguyile" and "Ilamai Ennum". The next segment was actually wonderful, GVM, presented his playlist with Karthik and Guitar Prasanna. They performed "Kodai Kala Katre", "Neethane en Ponvasantham", "Katrai Konjam", "Rasave unna nambi" and ended with Kamal's "Pottu Vaitha Kadhal Thittam". Once again Guitar Prasanna rocked that segment.

Then comes the legend SPB, the moment everyone was waiting, savior of the show. He said he's born for Raja and Raja is born for him. And, Kamal explained all three love each other so much, which is shown in their songs. He started with "Enna Satham intha neram", then "O Priya Priya" where he sang his lyrics in Telugu and female singer in Tamil, then the much awaited "Ilaya Nila" with Guitar Prasanna once again exhibited his skills. The next song, "Sundari Kannal" with Chitra was the most amazing moment of the event. The prelude itself was Goosebumps inducing, the whole set of violins, flute, the whole orchestra really rocked, it was really worth all the money I paid. And, he finishes with "Jotheyeli", an evergreen Kannada song. And, he was wondering whether he should continue or leave the stage. Such the way Vijay TV organized, he promised to come back if he gets a chance, but sadly there isn't any time for him.

DD called the heroes, but only Jayaram and Venkatesh were present and also Kushboo to stage and they had few words about Raja. Violinist L Subramaniyam all the way from New York performed, followed by film fraternities' every "sangam" presenting a memento to Raja.

Next on stage was DSP, who was disappointed not to Raja, who has left to eat, but DD asked to perform him. A guy came all the way from Finland and sang "Kalyana Malai", must appreciate his effort. Then, after a long wait, Usha Utup came on stage when the time was well past midnight. She performed her song "Vegam Vegam" followed by ThanniThotti with Senthil and Rum Bum Bum with DSP. It was her performance which woke up the crowd and made them alive. And, DSP continued with a solo performance.

The surprising package of the event was the band Thaikkudam Bridge from Kerala. They performed a few songs as a medley and finished it on a high with "Oh Shivoham" and took everyone by storm. It was really one of the highlight of the event and the person in Violin (I think Govind Menon) stunned everyone. Next, U1 was called on stage who spoke a few words and left, but everyone asked him to comeback and performed "Pottu Vaitha Kadhal thittam" song, which he couldn't do justice.

Finally, Kamal and Raja came to stage together well past 1:00 am. Raja promised to bring us a treat with a show of his own with complete orchestra, looks like even he was pissed off. And, Kamal and Raja performed the title song of Marudhanayagam, which was another surprise and looked like Kamal will restart the movie soon. And, finally they performed with the trailer running on screen and signed off. And, the time was 1:30 am.

Special mention to Arunmozhi @ Napolean who played flute. He was brilliant throughout the show, Once he missed his part during "Ilaya Nila", SPB sang those portions again just to make sure Arunmozhi gets it right. I have seen him in many events, he is really great.

Overall Vijay TV didn't plan the event properly, DD was irritating, she kept talking even after Kamal and SPB asked her to shut up, no one seems to know what's next. And, only few little songs were performed, but SPB, Guitar Prasanna, Arunmozhi's flute, Thaikudam Bridge, Usha Utup and a song from Marudhanayagam made this event a worthy one and a night to remember.

Two weddings, two trips and a lot of fun

Celebrating your friend's wedding is always fun and if its two wedding within a week in two different places, it was twice the fun . So, it was two trips of nearly 2600 kilometers in Buses and Trains and Vans within a week.

The first trip was to Nagercoil, it was my first visit to that place, it was just a one-day trip to attend the wedding and reception. In the morning most of us dressed in traditional dhotis, after clicking us enough pictures and selfies, we went in to hall to watch the ceremony. And, we had some fun on the stage during our photo session with the couple. We embarrassed the newly wed during their cake cutting ceremony which we bought to the stage, but it was fun for us and I don't think they will forget what happened.

Worst thing was we couldn't find a hotel to have our breakfast and our curse for finding a hotel started there and continued in our next trip as well. And, the weather was horrible it was similar to Chennai, too hot and humid which I didn't expect. So, to cool ourselves we went to Thirparappu waterfalls. It was fantastic and enjoyed ourselves. Later in the evening attended the reception and returned to Chennai after a 12 hours travel in the bus. It was short, but a sweet trip.

The next trip was even bigger with a lot of people. It started as a thriller, where one of our colleague was chasing the train in a local train and he missed it by a touching distance.  The party started right on the train itself and we made sure nobody slept in our compartment until we all slept. There was even some action involving "Rayapuram" Peter and comedy happened later in the night it seems, but I missed those as I went to another compartment.

On the first day of the trip few people decided to visit a dam, but most of made a decision to stay back and go for a movie. So, we all went to JilJunkJuk, one of the worst movies of this year in a worst theater and most of us slept through the movie. It was such a waste of time and money. And, later in the evening three of us caught by the police for going triples in a totally new place for us, but as usual a 100 rupees saved us.

And, in the evening after the mandatory selfie sessions we attended the reception. We made sure everyone knew about our arrival once we all went on to the stage with a huge roar. It was a big crowd and the enthusiasm was seriously high. I don't think I have attended any wedding like this before, we were all so excited.

The next day, Valentine's Day, was spent in Ooty, how romantic, but with 22 guys sigh. But, it's not like someone is waiting for me here. We were really not sure whether everyone will make it to Ooty since it was a big crowd, but we did. Once again the curse of finding a hotel for a breakfast continued here as well which took us a precious time and we don't even want to think about the hotel where we had lunch. I think we spent more time for breakfast and lunch than in any other spots there.

So in Ooty we visited the Doddabetta peak, took enough pics and selfies, but not sure whether we actually enjoyed the scenery. Then, the boat house where the pedaling was little hard, but fun. And, finally the Botanical Garden and the photo session went on and on there. Thank god, we didn't visit here first or else we would have spent the entire day clicking ourselves here. But, the weather was too hot for Ooty's standard during the day.

And, we thought the return to Coimbatore to catch the train would be a thrilling race against time since there was little traffic up in the hills, but we achieved the target with ease with plenty of time to spare. It didn't go down to the wire as expected. And, it was a great win to finally complete this trip successfully without any major hiccups.

Wish both the couples a fantastic and exiting life ahead.

Chennai - Nagercoil - Chennai - Erode - Ooty - Coimbatore - Chennai and that's how it was last week. Number of spots visited, 4, number of pics clicked, 243135, suitable profile pictures found as of  now, 0. For me it was a trip filled with thrills, action, comedy, suspense, but as usual zero romance. So. who's gonna be the next and where will be our next trip?

Chennai Rains - Government Enters Notice Period Officially

Chennai is getting back to normal after the devastating effects of rain last week. Even now some of the places are yet to recover fully. Chennai never had this much amount of rains in last 100 years and the whole city came to a standstill for few days. Even though Chennai is not my native I still love this city and really enjoy staying here.

We struggled for some three days. None of the ATMs was working so we didn't have enough cash in our hand to eat. No power so we didn't even know what was happening around. No signals so we couldn't communicate with anyone outside. We almost led a technology detox and struck with sleeping and reading books.

Only after reaching a place with electricity we came to know the actual effect of this floods. It made us feel like we led a comfortable three days compared to what people were going through for those three days. Also, we came to know how many people in and around Chennai were helping everyone to get through this. Salute to all the real life heroes for making this happen. And, it was a shame to sit inside my home idly for three days without knowing what was happening around us. If these many people didn't volunteer then the effect of this floods would have been even worse and with this kind of government, not sure when Chennai would have been back to its normal life. They took so much trouble to reach for people struck in waters to rescue them, give them food and everything else. It was very sad to see people waving hands from their terrace to the helicopters asking for food.

Also, social media proved its power once again, and it made sure the help reaches everyone. And, many people volunteered to do relief work and made this huge. But, some morons were spreading fake news which travelled faster than light and reached everyone. And, few people fighting over actors' contribution instead of asking the same to their councillor, MLA and MP they have elected.

And, our government role in this flood, they not only abandoned the people in need, but they made sure they stop all the relief materials sent from various places and pasted "AMMA STICKERS". And, amid all these floods they printed those stickers of various sizes and had volunteers "தானாகவே  முன் வந்து" pasted those stickers. I couldn't believe someone has thought of this idea and this made the people, even more, angrier.

All our ministers and mayor were afraid to take any questions from the media. That was understandable because our CM hasn't given any statements and our ministers are not allowed/capable of making any statements of their own. Still we haven't seen our CM in any press meet or launch any formal investigation on why this flood have happened since many sites reported this flood was man-made which could have been avoided or at least the loss could have been reduced. But, still our government made sure all the TASMAC shops are open so people can get over their loses with the boozes, hats off.

With the state elections are around the corner, this Amma DMK government is working like an employee in his notice period, doing nothing, knowing that the end is near. Looks like Amma has already given up on next elections and the way they handled this flood proves us they have entered their notice period officially.

Get well soon Chennai and bounce back in style.

Malar - Malaree... En Uyiril Vidarum PaniMalare..

"Malare ninne kaanathirunaal, Mizhivekiya niramellam maayunna pole"
Malar, a fictional character in Premam made me fell head over heels for her (trying to be Gautam Menon). None of the characters had made this much of an impact on me like Malar did. So many reasons made me love Malar and she's been driving me crazy since I saw the movie first time. Now I have seen it two more times just for Malar  miss and that Malare song video, lost the count on how many times I have seen it, my counter variable have overflown. Fantastic song with beautiful lyrics, singing and music and perfectly complemented with a brilliant video.

Before going into the movie I didn't even know her name. I didn't remember her face also even though I saw one pic in twitter. But, when she entered on screen and introduced herself as "Malar, en pera sonen", she just made me love her immediately just like how George (Nivin Pauly) felt at once after seeing her.

There's something unique in the way she speaks Tamil and her voice as well. It was very cute, the way she spoke her lines, "Sollamaten, sollamaten", "kadaisi number 6, maathi solliten", "enna pannittu irukenga?". Vizhunthuten. And, she isn't trying to be cute like few heroines who will irritating while trying to be cute and acts a loosu. She's the cutest and even her pimples adds more beauty.

I have already fallen for Malar and then comes the knock-out punch, her kuthu-dance. It was stunning, just like the way she stunned those three guys in the movie.  And, when I was watching for the first time it was a shocking surprise. That was really a mind-blowing kuthu dance I have seen in a long time. I wish they had one video with her dance movies alone for that "Rockankuthu" song. I just figured out later she danced in some reality shows and in fact Alphonse Puthren remembered her from one of the show and called her after seven years.

I have already downloaded every available picture of her on the internet and liked all the FB pages with her name and following her in Twitter as well. One more stalker for her. If the Wikipedia entry is right her hometown is very near to my native and she grew up in my native CBE as well, that's interesting. And, if this is true, "Her future plans is to complete the MBBS and return back to Coimbatore her home town and practice there", I am gonna get sick very often.

"Malare ninne kaanathirunaal, Mizhivekiya niramellam maayunna pole" - Malare, in your absence, all the colours decorated me are fading off. Lovely line from that Malare song in Premam and yeah even I feel the same and watching this movie again and again just for Malar. I have seen it thrice already I may watch it at least one more time in big screen.

Malar, a beautiful character in a beautiful film played by a beautiful actor. I am not gonna forget Malar easily. Thanks to Alphonse Puthren for writing such a character and also for casting a perfect Malar.

"Hi Malar.
Im Karthic.

நான் இத சொல்லியே ஆகணும். நீ அவ்வளவு அழகு.
இங்க எவனும் இவ்வளோ அழகா ஒரு..

இவ்வளோ அழகா பார்த்திருக்க மாட்டாங்க..

And I am In Love With You.."

3G to G3 - Apple to Android

After using Apple 3Gs for few years, I am back to Android. My very first smartphone, Xperia X8, was an Android phone which ran on an Android 1.6 version. My very first touch-screen mobile. Its 3-inch touch-screen looked so big in my hand.

It was so good to use a smart phone. Also, it was wonderful when they released an update in OS. I thought this would be the trend whenever a new Android OS is released, but they stopped updates for my phone after that 2.1 update. I was struck in that OS, unable to move apps to SD cards with my limited phone memory it was painful. Then, none of the apps was getting installed since they required OS version higher than mine and even the old apps were getting hanged or stopped with an error. Most irritating app was "Call", whenever I receive an incoming call the application "Call" will get crashed.

Then, came my first iPhone 3Gs. It was my sister's, I jailbroke it myself which took me two nightouts and it was worth it. I was able to install all the apps available outside the app store. It was smooth and touch response was fantastic. And, its minimal UI was a treat to use. Instantly addicted to iOS.

But, nothing was straightforward, you can't download a song and keep it as your ringtone in one go like we do in Android, which will be irritating in the beginning, but we will get used to it. And, you can't share pictures easily via Bluetooth, I couldn't figure out the purpose of Bluetooth in that phone. It was worth it, to have an iPhone that too jailbroken was fantastic. But, as usual I was struck with iOS 5.1 and the latest was iOS 8. I can't play any video files. As usual none of the apps was getting installed and not able to update any existing apps as well. It has become another Xperia X8 for me.

So decided to go for a new phone and was in a dilemma to go for an Android or another Apple product. After much analysis and research (!) decided to buy an Android which was worth the money I pay than the over-hyped-over-priced Apple and bought a LG G3. I was planning to buy Nexus 6, but it's too-big.

This one is a bada size phone with 5.5 inch screen and bada in every other hardware spec. It was running on KitKat and there was an update to Lollipop immediately. So far, it doesn't hang, apps are running smooth. But, haven't installed many games. Except for "Home" application crashing occasionally, the system doesn't get hanged. And, the internal memory of 32GB is sufficient so far. It has many cool features which LG have customized. I like some of the features like, bringing the phone near your ear to attend a call, flip your phone to skip track, call the one who messaged, take a selfie, etc. It has its own phone lock method, Knock Code, you just have to tap the phone even without switching on the screen, to unlock. These cool gimmicks makes this phone really interesting. And, yes this phone makes me take many Selfies. Also, I don't need any tab to watch movies while travelling, thanks to the screen size and its Quad HD resolution. With its Quick circle case, it allows to access few apps without even opening the cover, it's really cool. And, it has its mandatory power and volume buttons in the back making it look like a phone without any buttons which reduces its bezel area. I really enjoy using this phone.

I think I have made a right decision to go with an Android phone instead of Apple and this phone is really great so far. I wish it works in the same way for next few years and I hope LG provides me latest updates. Switching from 3G to G3, Apple to Android is proving to be a right decision.

Second Year in Chennai

Summer have started in Chennai and that reminds me, I have completed another year here. This year was packed with more actions and many new experiences just like last year.

This is the year I have thoroughly experienced the worst of Chennai. It is Chennai’s weather and Chennai’s traffic. I've started going to a different office and it was more than a 10km commute. Oh boy it was terrible ride for most of the days. And, that too in the morning, Chennai’s weather and traffic is the worst combination.

Devi - Biggest screen in Chennai, where we watch most of the films

This year I have been to many different theatres in Chennai. Almost all the major theatres like Devi, Kasi, Kamala, Udayam, Vetri, Inox, Albert, Abhirami “Mega Mall”, Shanthi. I was very much disappointed with Abhirami. They don't know the meaning for the word Mega or for the word Mall I guess. It doesn't look Mega and or for that matter it doesn't look like a Mall at all. It looked much better in 'Naan Mahan Alla' movie. And, you can spot someone from Tamil cinema industry on any given day in Satyam cinemas, it happened every single time this year as well. Spotted Jeyam Ravi, Chinmayi, Varalakshmi, Nakul, Director Vasanth, Karu Palaniappan, Santhosh Narayanan, Mia George, etc.

For the first time we attended a Carnatic musical kutcheri at Kamarajar Arangam (Chinmayi’s) in Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyar show. My friends and I looked very odd in that hall. But, we noted to attend this every year, much colourful this place is ;). Also, attended Chennai's book-fair this year as well. Too many books and spoilt for choices. Did manage to select a few from Kalachuvadu Pathipagam this year as well. Finally, visited Pondy, but in wrong time of May, the weather made sure we spent our time sitting inside our rooms.

And, not to board buses on a long weekend like Vinayagar Charurthi. Bus started by 10:00 at Koyembedu and crossed Thambaram well past mid-night at 2:00 am and reached Coimbatore by next day afternoon.

Since I have been working in a new company this year all those I have missed in the previous year have returned. Leaving from office very late, night-outs, weekends at office and what not. Changed my room also to near my office. Started walking to office for few days, then brought my cycle and went in that for few days and ended up going in two wheeler. It also worked in disadvantage since sometimes I get a call in midnight to come to office. But, really enjoyed working there and it didn't end as well as I expected.

My second year was equally good like my first year. Got few more friends in new company and once again lots of movies with new roommates. Also, a lot of movies and series in my laptop during weekends because of this weather.

My third year have started and everything have changed again since I have switched company last month. Let me see how this year goes and what's it has in store for me. And, let me keep exploring Chennai. I'vent even covered 25% of Chennai yet I guess.

Chennai is good.

Crushes - Crashes

Jeeva movie, released last year was one of my favourites and I have seen it twice for few reasons and one among them is Sri Divya, especially in the first half as a school girl. Sri Divya in her school dress actually reminded me of my crush after a very long time.

I don't clearly the names of the girls I had crushes when I was studying in my lower classes :), so skipping it, except a girl during my 5th standard. My first crush as far as I can remember clearly is during my 10th standard and Sri Divya reminded her ;).

It all started during my bus travel to school daily. She studied in a different school and gets into our bus in a different stop, but used to travel together in our regular bus. (the 'we' here refers to some 10 people, we used to travel together in same bus in same seats).

Some days, rarely, we used to travel in the same bus while returning. One day I was excited to see her get into the same bus while returning. The bus wasn't crowded much, but she didn't get a seat. Immediately I asked my friend to sit on my lap and offered his seat to her (I know what I should have actually done). It was a good ride back home and I still remember that day very well.

Then, next year she might have joined some other school or I heard she moved to some other city and I completely lost her. We didn't have cell phones or e-mail those days.  Next year, during my 12th standard I saw her getting down in her stop while I was returning home from school. I told my friends it was her even though some didn't believe me. I still remember that look when she got down from the bus, I know its her. That was the last time I saw her.

Then after some years, while watching Varanam Aayiram it hits me. Man !, this guy travels to another continent to meet his girl, I didn't even go to another bus stop to find her. So, I did, went there to find her. One of my schoolmate was there even asked him to enquire about her in that area, but no luck.

And, after many years, there she was, in my new company. Nope, just a dream, wake-up man. Why these kinds of things happen only in movies? Sigh!

After that, naan thedatha Social Networks illa, from Orukut to Facebook, couldn't find her at all. And, even if I find her now I don't think she will remember me.

To be continued..

How I Met Your Mother - HIMYM = HMILR

Barney, Robin, Ted, Marshal and Lily.

The first question that comes to your mind when you see the final scene of the last episode is, WHAT?? REALLY??

After watching some serious stuffs like Breaking Bad and GoT,  its time to watch some comedy series again. Since I have done with FRIENDS, I started Big Bang Theory, except Penny that series is not good at all or not even close to Friends, then tried Two and Half Men, it was okay, but all the episodes were almost similar. Then, I had only How I Met Your Mother in my HDD so started watching it alongside Dexter.

HIMYM impressed me more than other comedy series Big Bang and Two and Half Men so started watching it daily. I didn't even know this one was an ongoing series. I got much interested  in this so stopped Dexter and started watching it more than two episodes daily. The first reason, Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), she's so good, next reason is, this was close to Friends.

It was very similar to Friends in the beginning. Five friends hanging out together all the time instead of Central Perk coffee shop they hang out mostly at the McLaren's bar. Barney was more like Chandler and Joey combined. He is a playboy and nobody knows about his work. Ted and Robin's relationship was like Ross and Rachel's on and off across seasons. And, just like Rachel and Joey, Robin and Barney were also dating, but this is more serious and they even end up getting married in the last season.

One episode in the second season which I enjoyed the most is the 'Slapbet' between Barney and Marshal. And, this Slapbet continued till last season and it was absolutely hilarious. Among the characters, my favorite must be Barney, his characterization was like a mix of Chandler and Joey. Next is Robin, who was perfect company for Barney and she looks good and also acts good.

The last two seasons were boring, one season too many. So I got the feeling let it end rather than "oh no it's ending", which Friends gave.

Some of the best quotes from this series are, Robin's "The future is scary, but you can't run back to the past because its familiar. Yes its tempting, but its a mistake. Barney's "Legen...wait for it...dary", "New is always better". I wish I get a friend like Barney so we can play 'Haaaaaaave you met Karthic ?😜'.

Coming back to that question WHAT and  REALLY at the end of this series is because How I Met Your Mother is actually Ted's, How Much I love Robin.

My 10 Wishes:

2. One movie like Virumandi or Thevar Magan, back to villages. We all know it won't be same as any other Madurai based movie.

3. Kamal + Illaiyaraja combo again. I know this combo have worked more than 100 movies together. I wish to see them back soon maybe for a movie like Virumandi or Thevar Magan itself.

4. One movie with SriDevi. Since Kamal - Sridevi is one of the best on screen pair I would love to see them together again.

5. More movies in as a director. We were blown away by Kamal, the director, in Hey Ram, Virumandi,  Vishwaroopam so I wish he directs more movies.

6. More songs as a playback singer like Neruppu Vayinil in Pudepettai, I wish he sings few songs for others movies as well. I know its too much to ask.

7. That Hollywood movie which was rumored long back. I wish it becomes true.

8. Panchathanthiram's sequel. During Manmadhan Anbu's release, Kamal or KSR revealed in one interview that they were planning to make sequel to Panchathanthiram, but decided to do Manmadhan Anbu instead. I wish they join once again to make it. Everyone loves that movie even though it wasn't a big hit. It deserves a sequel.

9. I am not a big fan of actors entering into politics, but if there's one and only actor who's intelligent enough to enter politics it must be Kamal. So, I wish he enters into politics.

10. Last, but not the least. One more with his best friend Rajnikanth together. Wow, how good it will be to see them on screen together again.
